We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely very rare circa 1850 hand made in Venice Italy carved Fruitwood rocking armchair depicting Sea horses, Cherubs, and gothic gargoyles said to ward off evil spirits
A fantastic looking and well made piece, this chair is a tour de force of craftmanship, clearly a Show Frame made for exhibition, these types of furniture were made to be exhibited to show off how proficient the craftsman was The chair has been fully restored to include having the joints checked and sealed, the timber has all been lightly French polished being sure to keep all the original charm and patina, its then been hand waxed and polished. The leather seat pad and back have been replaced recently with this lovely heritage brown leather hide, heritage leather has wonderful creasing and patina and is designed to look old from new This chair is the finest example of its type in the world, you can see a similar example but with sea horses on the arms in the Victorian and Albert Museum Any connoisseur of fine furniture will know exactly what this chair is as soon as they see it, it’s a real statement to have in one’s home and considered a piece of art in its own right. Think of it as the Rembrandt of armchairs!
